Water Shortage Impacts Uncoated Fine Paper Production at Stora Enso's Nymölla Mill
Print

Helsinki, Finland 02 October 2018 -- The flow of water is insufficient to allow Stora Enso Nymölla to maintain full production, the company said.

Stora Enso has partly suspended production at the Nymölla fine paper mill due to low water levels in the river supplying the mill. According to local media reports, pulping operations at the site have been suspended. In addition, one of the two paper machines at the site is standing still as well.

Stora Enso confirmed the company had initiated a "controlled temporary shutdown of parts of the mill" on 1 October in order to reduce water usage. Stora Enso was not able to predict how long the partial downtime at the Nymölla mill was going to last and make estimates on the production shortfall.

Nymölla mill operates one pulp line producing some 340.000 tpy of bleached hardwood and softwood pulp, and two paper machines with an output of 470,000 tpy of woodfree uncoated paper.
