Stora Enso Oyj: The first recyclable razors made of Biocomposite
Print

FINLAND (News release) -- The latest SUP directive could be considered just the beginning of how we are slowly moving into minimizing the usage of disposable products.

The directive has enforced many suppliers to choose smarter materials and to start designing and develop take-back systems for their products. This is also what our customer ecoShave had in mind when they chose our materials, as they are now considering the closed loop for their disposable razors.

Single-use razors are usually made out of Polystyrene, but where ecoShave wanted to launch a more sustainable version of the classic grooming product. ecoShave was looking for a way to stand out from the traditional solutions and design a disposable single use razor where both the packaging and product is made from sustainable materials.

ecoShave is today the first sustainable disposable razor for men and women. The material contains 50% wood fibers but still only weighs 4 grams per handle. The Biocomposites replaced the old polystyrene and could be applied in their existing molds without any additional changes.

"Long-term sustainability means to reduce plastic, not to trade one plastic by another." Thomas Grüner, Founder ecoShave

And we couldn't agree more, it's not one or the other. We can only achieve impact when we manage to decrease usage of plastics together.
