CHICAGO (News release) -- Pregis®, a leading global manufacturer of protective packaging, mailing and bagging, and flexible packaging solutions, published its 2023 Sustainability Report highlighting its commitment to minimizing environmental impacts. The report details actions and results achieved in 2023, significantly advancing the company's progress toward its 2K30 objectives. These goals are an extension of the Pregis Purpose to Protect, Preserve and Inspyre, which serve as the cornerstones of the company's value system.
Here are a few highlights from the 2023 Report:
- Achieved 51% of revenues from products that are paper-based, bio-based, or made from a minimum of 30% recycled content
- Achieved an 86% reduction in operational emissions intensity (scopes 1 and 2), surpassing the 25% reduction goal seven years ahead of schedule
- Diverted 91% of its waste from landfill and incineration
- Saved 748,806 trees from harvest through the Pregis EasyPack® 100% recycled paper portfolio
- Attained International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS certification for four facilities
- Delivered over 450 hours of sustainability training to employees and 560 hours to customers
Pregis continues to invest in developing innovative products that support a circular economy. The company launched an industry-first 80% post-consumer recycled content (PCR) high-pressure inflatable cushioning product and a first-to-market Polyethylene (PE) Foam solution made with Certified Circular resins.
In support of its zero waste goal across all operations, the company launched four 'zero waste flagship' facilities, investing in developing a blueprint for zero waste manufacturing. Pregis received third-party verification on emissions reporting with limited assurance across all scopes, further enhancing the accuracy and credibility of its carbon footprint data and enabling a focused approach to decarbonization. These are just a few examples of how Pregis assists customers in reaching their sustainability goals and staying in compliance with stricter environmental standards.
"At Pregis, our commitment to sustainability is driven by our dedicated people and a shared vision. We remain steadfast in our mission to Protect, Preserve, and Inspyre, continuously pioneering sustainable solutions that benefit our planet and inspire change within our industry," explains Kevin Baudhuin, Chairman and CEO of Pregis.
Pregis created stakeholder value through new opportunity creation with customers by improving their sustainability results. At the Pregis IQ Innovation Headquarters, a team of engineersconducted 271 customer projects focused on reducing damage, redesigning sustainable packaging and enhancing packing efficiency. Additionally, Pregis has supported over 50 customers in making data-driven decisions by providing custom life cycle assessments (LCAs).
