The PaperMoney40 (PM40) was established in March 2004 at a normalized value of 1,000. Over the years, companies have come and gone but we have always tried to replace disappearing companies with those of a similar nature. Then there have been splits and reverse splits which it was necessary to accommodate, and we have done the best of our ability to account for these.
