This issue of PaperMoney includes a column by Neil McCubbin, one of two new international correspondents who will be sharing industry insights with you (the other is Dennis Shore, in Australia).

For those who might not be familiar with Neil or his work, a brief introduction follows:

Neil earned his engineering degree (with honors) from the University of Glasgow, Scotland, in 1964, then immigrated to Canada the next year. His professional activities have been almost entirely related to pulp and paper industry. Initially, he worked in mills and later as a consultant in Canada and overseas. In the earlier stages of his career he worked on detail design of pulp production, pollution prevention, and effluent treatment systems. He later concentrated on process and environmental studies. “Many of these have included assistance in resolving conflicting environmental issues and reaching consensus amongst management of the pulp and paper industry, environmental advocacy groups, and regulatory agencies,” he notes.

A more extensive resume is available at
http://www.mccubbin.ca/cvMcCubbinEnglish.pdf.

Neil says he is about two-thirds retired now, but he still enjoys working with the people in the industry on a few projects, mostly overseas, when he isn't sailing, skiing, or travelling.

We’ll introduce Dennis and his column next month.
