Comment Print
ANDRITZ has provided key equipment for a new hardwood Neutral Sulfite Semi-Chemical (NSSC) production line and for a woodyard upgrade to packaging and paper producer Mondi at its containerboard mill in Kuopio, Finland.

This delivery is part of Mondi's expansion and upgrade project at the mill, which produces high-quality semi-chemical fluting, primarily for food packaging.

"Mondi's purpose is to be sustainable by design, and investments like this support our MAP2030 sustainability commitments which include a focus on circular-driven packaging and paper solutions", said Juha Koukka, Managing Director of Mondi Kuopio. "The equipment and process improvements will increase production capacity by 55,000 tonnes per annum while enhancing efficiency and improving environmental performance."

The ANDRITZ scope of supply included:

  • Key equipment for a new hardwood NSSC line to produce high-purity NSSC pulp. The line comprises a state-of-the-art chip feeding system, continuous NSSC cooking, blow line refining and multi-stage washing at the end of the line. ANDRITZ's fiberline technology ensures highest operational time and washing efficiency. In addition, it reduces freshwater and energy consumption, thus minimizing the environmental impact.
  • Key equipment for a major upgrade of the existing woodyard including a wood handling line with slasher deck, de-icing conveyor and HHQ-Chipper, ensuring highest and uniform chip quality. The delivery also included complete chip handling with ANDRITZ 360º Stacker Reclaimer chip storage and feeding to the new ANDRITZ digester.
