Ahlstrom, a global leader in fiber-based specialty materials, is proud to announce the launch of Lipid Saver™, a new solution designed for collecting, transporting, and storing fatty acids from whole blood samples.
Ahlstrom's Lipid Saver™ offers a significant advancement in this area with an innovative specimen collection card that enables easy, reliable collection and long-term preservation of both saturated and unsaturated fatty acids at room temperature. This solution eliminates the need for refrigeration, enhancing cost competitiveness for the end-user while promoting sustainability across the healthcare value chain.
Fatty acids in whole blood play a vital role in numerous biological processes, including energy production, cellular structure regulation, and signaling pathways. Accurately measuring these fatty acids is essential for gaining insights into an individual's metabolic health, dietary habits, and potential risk factors for various diseases.
"This innovative card is a game-changer for collecting and analyzing biological samples across multiple applications, including disease prevention, wellness, and lipidomics research," says Giuseppe Costa, Vice President of Laboratory & Life Science at Ahlstrom. "Lipid Saver™ is designed for ease of use, allowing patients to collect samples at home. Additionally, its specialized collection paper ensures the preservation of whole blood samples for extended periods at ambient temperature, providing a less resource-intensive alternative by eliminating refrigeration needs."
Lipid Saver™ features five printed 12mm circles, each capable of holding up to 70µl of blood, allowing a total collection of 350µl. It is fully compatible with both manual and semi-automated punching systems and seamlessly integrates into existing dried blood spot (DBS) workflows, making it a convenient and adaptable solution for researchers and healthcare professionals alike.
Ahlstrom's Lipid Saver™ is poised to enhance how fatty acids are collected and stored, enabling more accessible and sustainable testing methods in the fields of healthcare and research.
