Print

Durgapur, India 07 February 2018 -- (From news reports) -- At least 50 people were taken ill, majority of them gasping for life, after a fire at a garbage bin of a paper mill spewed poisonous smoke affecting nearby villagers of Jatgaria under Kanksa (Barddhaman) police station, official sources said.

When the report came in, some 33 affected people had been already taken to nearby hospital after they complained of chest pain, burning eyes and acute breathing trouble.

Reacting to deadly smoke emanating from the paper mill, hundreds of agitated villagers attacked the mill and ransacked it and beat up the security staff.

Police arrived at the factory and arrested its manager Rajesh Agarwal and sealed the factory until forensic officials examined the causes of spewing poisonous gas.
