$240M investment will extend production life of New-Indy Containerboard mill
Print
SOUTH CAROLINA (From news reports) -- New-Indy Containerboard, a manufacturer and supplier of recycled containerboard for the corrugated box industry, plans to invest $240 million to establish operations at a recently-acquired pulp and paper mill facility in Catawba, South Carolina.

Founded in 2012, New-Indy Containerboard uses 100% recycled fiber in its current manufacturing process. This acquisition will provide the ability to balance company product lines equally between virgin kraft and recycled containerboard.

The mill, located at 5300 Cureton Ferry Road in Catawba, currently produces lightweight communication papers. New-Indy Containerboard is investing in process equipment to convert the mill to ultra-lightweight, virgin kraft linerboard, improving the competitiveness of the facility. The York County mill will continue utilize wood from local suppliers in its operations. The equipment conversion and new operations are expected to be online during the fourth quarter of 2020.

"New-Indy Containerboard is excited about our acquisition of the pulp and paper mill located in Catawba, South Carolina. Our intent is to convert the existing facility from the production of communication paper products to containerboard grades. We want to thank the York County Council and the South Carolina Department of Commerce for the valuable assistance they provided during the purchase process. Their support is critical to the facility's continued growth and success, and we look forward to a close and long- lasting relationship with both of these entities," New-Indy Containerboard COO Rick Hartman said.

"When a company like New-Indy Containerboard decides to invest nearly a quarter billion dollars into our state, it further builds our reputation as one of the best places in the world to do business. We congratulate New-Indy Containerboard on this project, and we can't wait to see what the future holds for the company," said Governor Henry McMaster.

"South Carolina has a robust recycling industry that continues to grow every day. We congratulate New-Indy Containerboard on keeping this trend going, and we look forward to watching the company succeed in York County for many years to come," said Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt.

"We couldn't be more pleased that New-Indy Containerboard has chosen to make such significant investment in York County. This is great news for our community in terms of jobs retained and a welcomed addition to our growing list of recycling and manufacturing companies. We look forward to seeing the company continue to grow and thrive," said York County Council Chairman Michael Johnson.
