Voith Paper to Automate Dunapack Mill in Hungary
Comment Print
Heidenheim, Germany, 01 July 2008 -- Last year Hamburger Hungària Kft. commissioned Voith Paper to build the new PM 7 packing paper machine at the facilities in Dunaújváros, Hungary. Now, the company has decided to extend the partnership for the automation of the mill.

The PCS 7 system of the machine control will now be expanded to cover the entire process line, starting with the stock preparation on to the approach flow, all the way to the steam/condensation and vacuum system. The speed control is integrated into the visual controls by means of OnC DriveCommand in such a way that the operators have a clear overview of all important process data.

In addition, the PM 7 is equipped with Voith’s quality control system “OnQuality” containing two scanners: one to measure moisture before the size press, the other before the reeling. The latter is equipped with sensors for measuring moisture, basis weight and color. To achieve a consistently high paper quality in machine direction (MD), a piece of software is installed for the MD control of moisture and basis weight and a program for coordinating speed and grade changes. All important production and quality data are collected using the OnView server and can then be accessed via intranet from the offices as well.

The papermills of Dunapack Paper and Packaging Ltd. are part of the division “Hamburger Containerboard” of the Austrian Prinzhorn Holding GmbH and are Hungary’s largest paper producer. The company has been producing corrugated base paper with the PM 3 since 1978 at the Dunaújváros site (70 km south of Budapest). Commissioning of the new PM 7 paper machine from Voith is planned for June of 2009. When run at full capacity, the machine could produce annually approximately 350,000 metric tons of corrugated material and test liner board made of 100% recycled paper.

Voith Paper is a group division of Voith and one of the leading partners in the papers industry. More than one third of paper production worldwide is produced using Voith Paper machinery. Founded on 01 January 1867, Voith is a large family-owned corporation based in Europe. Today, the company has 37,000 employees, turns over EUR 4 billion in sales, and has more than 270 locations worldwide.
