UPM Timber Extends Temporary Lay-Offs in Finland
Print
Helsinki, Finland, 13 March 2009 – UPM Timber will continue temporary lay-offs in Finland during the second quarter of the year. UPM's Timber business will temporarily lay off its entire staff during April-June this year. Sawmills at Alholma, Heinola, and Kajaani will cease the production for at least two months.

Other mills, production units and staff functions will have temporary lay-offs according to separate schedules and plans during the second quarter of this year. The weak profitability and ever weakening market situation in sawn timber and further processed products have made the business difficult during the first quarter of this year.

UPM's Timber business employs approximately 900 people in Finland. UPM's sawmills in Finland are located in Lappeenranta (Kaukas), Kajaani, Pietarsaari (Alholma), Korkeakoski, Heinola, and Pori (Seikku). Further processing mills are located in Parkano, Aureskoski, Heinola, and Lappeenranta.
