The Final Word by Jim Thompson
Print
Ziff Davis Enterprises announced last week a new strategy called OmniDigital. The short and sweet of it is this: as of 01 January 2012, they will no longer physically print any magazines. Everything will be digital.
Almost simultaneously, Governor Paul LePage of the great state of Maine announced that yet another financial group has been persuaded to start up the old mill in East Millinocket, Maine. Granted the paper made in this mill may not have exactly been the basis for Ziff Davis’s magazines, but the relationship is close enough that it should worry most people.
As we have said here many, many times before, governments cannot resist throwing more money at such old relics hoping to bring back high paying blue collar jobs. What a pity — PM predicts yet another disappointment for the good citizens of East Millinocket.
