The Final Word by Jim Thompson

If the euro collapses, and each passing day seems to make the case stronger that it will, how will it affect our industry? It remains to be seen, but it will not likely be good.

For those who have been thinking of denominating international trade of paper, pulp, recycled fiber, and energy in something other than the dollar, this will put a damper on their ideas. The scary thing is this, though, in the big picture: what is the future of the dollar as an (the) international currency? The U.S. debt load is making it look a bit weak in the knees these days.

Hopefully, boards of directors, either through their own expertise or with outside help, are seriously looking at the ramifications of these possible problems.
