Plum Creek to Permanently Close Lumber Remanufacturing Mill
Print

Meridian, Idaho, USA 30 January 2015 -- Plum Creek today announced plans to permanently close its lumber remanufacturing mill in Meridian on March 31, 2015. This action is in response to the decision by a key customer not to renew its contract with the company. The closure will result in the loss of 61 jobs.

The remanufacturing facility, which produces softwood boards and edge glued panels, has been owned and operated by Plum Creek since 1998. The company plans to put the property up for sale midyear.

"The closure of the mill is a hard step to take due to the job losses to our valued employees," said Tom Ray, vice president, Northwest Resources and Manufacturing at Plum Creek. "Several dedicated members of the team have worked at the plant since before Plum Creek first owned and operated it in 1998."

Plum Creek will offer severance to employees affected by the closure of the mill. Resources for employment and retraining will also be provided to help dislocated workers find new jobs. In compliance with federal law, the Meridian mill employees were provided with a 60-day advance notice of the mill closing.

Plum Creek is among the largest and most geographically diverse private landowners in the nation with more than 6 million acres of timberlands in 19 states.
