Nippon Paper Group Mills Resume Operations

Tokyo, Japan, 11 April 2011 -- Nippon Paper Group resumed operations suspended as a result of the earthquake centered off the coast of Miyagi Prefecture at the following mills:

Nippon Paper Industries Hokkaido mill at Asahikawa (Asahikawa, Hokkaido) resumed operations the evening of 08 April.

Nippon Daishowa Paperboard's Akita mill (Akita, Akita) resumed operation the morning of 10 April. The Kitakami paper mill (Ichinoseki, Iwate) resumed operation the night of 09 April.

In addition, Nippon Paper Industries' Iwanuma mill (Iwanuma, Miyagi) has restarted continuous operation of one newsprint machine since 11 April after a successful trial run the morning on 10 April. Another newsprint machine at the mill is under preparation to restart, as announced on 06 April.

The company currently is assessing the impact of the 11 March earthquake and related damage on the businesses and the consolidated financial results of Nippon Paper Group, Inc.
