Mondi Packaging Completes Paper Machine Rebuild in Świecie, Poland
Print
Świecie, Poland, 14 September 2007 -- Mondi Packaging has successfully concluded the comprehensive rebuild of its PM 1 kraftliner paper machine in Świecie, Poland, and marked the occasion with an official ceremony at the production site.

The modernized machinery, which now uses advanced technology, will substantially increase the production capacity of the Świecie operation and enable it to manufacture considerably lighter varieties of kraftliner quality paper than in the previous facility. PM 1 has been built to meet the stringent targets set by Mondi Packaging to provide 100% delivery accuracy and reliability to its customers.

The output of the new machine will increase by around 30%, depending on product portfolio, which will continue to include top quality sack kraft paper. The new, lighter paper quality which will now be available from this unit will meet the growing customer demand for lighter packaging materials, without loss of rigidity and strength.

During the ceremony Peter Machacek, CEO of the Mondi Packaging Paper Division, thanked the Świecie team for the successful rebuild that they carried out. He reinforced that the rebuild was a good example of how effectively Mondi Packaging implements safety, health, and environment initiatives as the rebuild was carried out efficiently and safely, with zero harm to employees.

Peter Oswald, Mondi Packaging chief executive, said: “The key benefit of the EUR 38 million investment is to enable Mondi Packaging Paper Świecie to position itself as a European market leader of high quality lightweight kraftliner.”

Mondi Packaging Paper Świecie S.A, is a growth oriented, preferred European solutions provider in packaging papers. The inauguration of the newly rebuilt paper machine coincides with the 40th anniversary of the plants' founding and the 10th anniversary since Mondi Packaging’s acquisition of a majority share in the original Celulosa Świecie operation.
