Klabin Conducts Maintenance Shutdowns at the Puma and Monte Alegre Units

Paraná, Brazil 16 March 2017 -- Klabin will conduct maintenance shutdowns at its two units in Paraná. Between March 19 and 31, the Puma Unit in Ortigueira will undergo its first maintenance shutdown. The Monte Alegre Unit will be shut down for maintenance between April 24 and May 3. Around 150 companies will be contracted for the maintenance services, which include inspection of boilers, digesters, pipelines, power generation and distribution systems, and control of the entire production process, among other activities - all this to ensure the safety and reliability of plant operations.

The number of workers mobilized for the maintenance works requires logistics and infrastructure that include transportation, accommodation, meals and other items that drive and stimulate the local economy of Ortigueira and Telêmaco Borba. It will also produce other benefits for the two cities, such as tax collection and extra business at hotels, bars, restaurants and stores, and other services that support the stay of workers in the cities.

Klabin advises that, during the Maintenance Shutdown period, there will be a higher circulation of buses and trucks on highways in the region, especially those leading to the Units. Also, due to the processes involved in shutting down and resuming operations at the plants, variations in odors and noises from the plants may be felt and heard by the community. However, note that these changes do not pose any threat to public health or the environment.
