Fire Destroys RCP in Italy

Porcari, Lucca, Italy 14 May 2014 -- A fire broke out at the Porcari tissue mill last Sunday and destroyed part of the recovered paper stock. Paper production stood still for a few hours, according to Lucart.

The mill of Italian tissue producer Lucart SpA in Porcari was hit by a fire on Sunday, 11 May. According to ARPAT, the Environmental Protection Agency of Tuscany Region, the fire broke out in the recovered paper storage area and destroyed a part of the mill's recovered paper stock. Lucart was not able to say how much of the raw material was destroyed but the fire service estimates that around 3,000 t of paper were burnt in the blaze.

A Lucart spokeswoman reported that the paper machines had not been affected by the fire and that the impact on production had been minimal. A union spokesman added that the three paper machines had been halted as a precautionary measure when the fire broke out in the afternoon. One of the PMs had resumed operation at 22 pm the same evening while the other two machines had been restarted at 6 am the following day.

The mill in Porcari in the Tuscany region is one of five mills of Lucart Spa in Italy. The company is part of the Lucart-Group which also has subsidiaries in France and Spain. Lucart SpA produces MG paper, tissue paper and tissue products.
