Print

Gorla Minore, Italy 20 January 2015 -- A major fire hit Italian coreboard producer Cartiera Olona. Production is since standing still and will be resumed on 26 January, said a company spokesperson.

Italian coreboard manufacturer Cartiera Olona has suspended production at its plant in Gorla Minore following a major fire. The fire service reported that the fire broke out in the early hours of 9 January. Owing to the scale of the blaze, it took several days to put it out. A company spokeswoman now says production is expected to be resumed on 26 January.

The fire destroyed various buildings, amongst them two warehouses for finished products. The spokeswoman estimates that roughly 1,000 t of board were burnt in the blaze. The production facilities were not damaged, she added. Nobody was injured.

Cartiera Olona is located in Gorla Minore near Varese in Northern Italy and produces coreboard as well as board for protective edging. The company says it has an annual production capacity of 48,000-50,000 t.
