Canadian Group Seeks More Time to Complete Lumber Agreement
Print
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, 27 September 2006 -- /PRNewswire/ -- The BC Lumber Trade Council has been working diligently with International Trade Minister David Emerson and his officials to implement the Canada-U.S. softwood lumber agreement by 01 October 2006.

"We have made a tremendous amount of progress to date on the softwood lumber agreement. However, in order to satisfy all the requirements needed to bring the agreement into effect, we are asking the Government of Canada for a limited extension of time," said John Allan, president of the BC Lumber Trade Council.

"The BCLTC is committed to the quick implementation of this agreement but extending the deadline in a very limited way will allow it to be brought into effect in an orderly fashion," said Allan.

The BC Lumber Trade Council is the voice for companies in British Columbia representing the majority of BC lumber production.
